This week had me back in the kitchen again, even though I’m starting to feel like I need a little break from cake. I volunteered to bring a cake in for our team’s end of financial year morning tea today, and after my last few cakes, it had to be something cool! I do a few different after-work activities throughout the week so I needed an idea that wouldn’t take too long to put together. After deciding that I wanted to present my icing al naturale after my last two green and blue cakes, I had to think about something that would look good on a white background. So… penguins!
After a week of planning and indecision, I tackled the Loch Ness monster cake on Sunday. It definitely took me a lot longer to complete than I’d originally thought! However I think the result is kinda cool.
I work in a government office, which means a flexible working schedule… but this weekend is a Big Bad Deployment Weekend, which means I’m sitting here at my desk at 11:30am on a Saturday morning, when I should be out enjoying the sunny (but freezing) weather outside. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and I’ll be out of here soon! According to the schedule, my part of the deployment was supposed to be done and dusted by 10am, but here I still am.
I’ve been doing a little research for my Loch Ness monster cake. I’m hoping to attempt this on Sunday, but we’ll see. I’m on call for work for a major deployment, so if things go badly then I won’t have time. I’m also supposed to be going out to see a movie on Sunday afternoon, which I’m still waiting to hear about. So, we’ll see.
Here are a couple of other photos of my efforts at the CIT cake decorating course I just finished. The instructor’s name is Adrian Volpatti, but he won’t be running another course until later in the year. Continue reading
